Fun Stuff

Milton, ON — In an effort to boost tourism during the COVID-19 pandemic and show heartfelt appreciation to Ontario’s longest serving Mayor, Town Council and the Niagara Escarpment Commission (NEC) have unanimously approved a stone carving of current and longstanding Mayor Gord Krantz along the edge of the Niagara Escarpment.

Gordon “Gord” Krantz served as a Town Councillor between 1965 to 1980, and has been re-elected a total of 21 times (8 as Councillor, 13 as Mayor) during his political career.

During his time in office, Milton’s population has grown by more than 300%.

There has been talk that a “Mount Rushmore” of more prominent Miltonians may also be added in the future.  Names up for consideration include Town’s founder Jasper Martin, “Mr. Dressup” Ernie Coombs, Astronaut Colonel Chris Hadfield, and tireless community volunteer & Regional Councillor Colin Best.

CONFIRMED:  Yes this was indeed an April Fools joke.  BUT the Mayor did find it hilarious and said this:  “I’m led to believe that that portion of the Escarpment is lime and dissolvable.”
